UAF Business Leader of the Year Tracy Vanairsdale
Building Community Through Architecture
Across Alaska’s urban centers, close-knit communities, and remote villages, visionary leaders shape the state’s future. Among them is Tracy Vanairsdale, whose great loves are designing communities that bring people together and giving back through service. Her dedication to thoughtful, human-centered design and ongoing volunteerism can be seen throughout Fairbanks. In recognition of these contributions, Tracy was named 2024 Business Leader of the Year by UAF’s College of Business and Security Management.
Born and raised in Fairbanks, Tracy studied engineering and art at UAF before earning her degree in architecture from the University of Idaho. She returned to Fairbanks and joined Bettisworth North in 1995. Since then, Tracy’s design leadership has shaped the UAF campus in enduring ways with projects at Constitution Hall, Signers’ Hall, Elvey Building, Moore Hall, Bartlett Hall, Rasmuson Library’s Student Success Center, Eielson Building, and the new Troth Yeddha’ Indigenous Studies Center.
Tracy’s work honors inclusiveness and fosters a sense of belonging. Her passion for building strong Alaska communities extends beyond design; she is president-elect of the Rotary Club of Fairbanks and has served on the boards of the Alaska chapters of the Association for Learning Environments and the American Institute of Architects. Tracy is also a longstanding supporter of the Golden Heart Community Foundation.
